Specifications

Maximum Items Deactivated per Pouch

Medium: 45 pills, 177 mL, 6 patches

Large: 90 pills, 354 mL, 12 patches

Extra Large: 450 pills, 1.8 L, 60 patches

Each patented Deterra pouch contains a water-soluble inner pod containing MAT12® activated carbon. Once the pharmaceuticals are placed in the pouch, you add warm water, which dissolves the inner pod releasing the activated carbon. The warm water also dissolves prescription pills, patches and liquids allowing them to be adsorbed by the carbon, rendering them inert and irretrievable.

Question and Answers

Q

Can we use Deterra to destroy expired controlled drugs?

Anonymous- On Monday, 03 February 2020

A

Yes. According to Deterra: "According to the DEA, any destruction method applied to a controlled substance must render it “non-retrievable” and subsequently unavailable, unusable, and no longer available for diversion for all practical purposes. Testing results have shown Deterra to meet these standards."
